Introducing Pinpoint Economics

Nick Matthews is the Chief Economist and Founder of Pinpoint Economics. He has over 18 years of experience as an economist on both the sell-side and buy-side. Prior to founding Pinpoint Economics, Nick was an economist at Brevan Howard working closely with the Head of Global Strategy. Before that, he was Head of European Economic Research at Nomura and has also been a Senior Economist at Nomura, RBS and Barclays Capital.

Nick brings with him a great deal of experience and knowledge of macroeconomic forecasting and analysis. He has developed many proprietary indicators and models during his career to track and forecast business cycle, GDP and inflation dynamics.

Nick also has a particular interest and specialism in monetary policy and its effective communication. He is a respected ECB Watcher whose opinion and views have been featured over the years on Bloomberg, Reuters, FT, WSJ and the BBC to name but a few. During his time at Nomura, the European Economics team was also ranked the number one forecaster of ECB interest rates and euro area inflation within the Bloomberg survey of professional economists. Nick also served as a UK representative on the European Banking Federation's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and Chief Economist Group.

Pinpoint Economics has been founded to bring the same level of rigour, precision and accuracy Nick has exhibited throughout his career to discerning clients. Be it through the provision of Developed Markets macroeconomic research and forecasts, or in an advisory capacity, Pinpoint Economics can work with clients to help identify, analyse and understand investment themes and opportunities.

The name Pinpoint was deliberately chosen to express the analytical beliefs of its Founder. Whether it is big picture global market and geopolitical themes, or more specialised issues, Pinpoint Economics can deliver the focus, accuracy and precision required in an uncertain world.
